The Story:

This song was composed by Swamigal in the midst of a Divya Namakirtannam in Premika Bhavanam on 16th May 1998, at about 11:40pm.

In this song Sri Swamigal emphasises on the divine quality of infinite compassion of Sri Krishna to show by instances from Srimad Bhagavatham that Sri Krishna's compassion knows no bounds and to the persons who have surrendered themselves to Krishna, Bhagavan extends his protection like a formidable fortress wall.

Bhagawan's compassion and grace is so unique; he magnifies even our smallest offering and gives us unimaginable, multifold returns. The incident referred to in this context is the fruit seller's episode. An old lady selling Jaumoon fruits, sees the little Krishna. On seeing such a beautiful child she offers a few fruits to him out of spontaneous love. Bhagawan's tiny hands could have received only two or three fruits from her. Later the fruit seller finds that her Basket is filled with precious gems. Bhagawan had gifted priceless gems for a few fruits, returning her loving offering multifold!

Sri Swamigal in his gospel says that there exists a healthy competition between a true devotee and Bhagawan! The devotee thinks that the Lord's grace on him is so much, that he doesn't deserve so much for his meagre devotion towards the Lord and hence strives to increase his Bhakthi towards the Lord. The Lord, in turn feels that he hasn't done enough to return the devotee's bhakthi and hence showers more grace on him, this 'tussle' goes on and on, almost creating a competition between Bhakthan and Bhagawan! Such is his compassion which is beyond compare.

Bhagawan's compassion doesn't know good or evil. The common example quoted for this quality of Krishna, is that his mercy is like a tropical rain. When it rains, it rains equally on the ditches as well as the distinguished dwellings; it rains on the devious and the devoted. The demoness Putana, at the behest of Kamsa, came to poison Sri Krishna under the pretext of feeding him milk. Bhagawan gave her the highest state of liberation almost immediately! He had given the same state which is attained by Yogis after years of intense austerity; which is got by the constant chanting of his divine names; which is achieved by the practising the difficult path of knowledge by self enquiry; which is obtained by the fortunate few who get a chance to take the dust of Bhagavathars and which is gifted by the saints and sages to their disciples and devotees, to someone who approached him with an evil intention.

Mahatmas on reading this in Bhagavatham, have questioned the lord, "If you have given such a great state to Putana who tried poisoning you under the pretext of feeding you, then what have you to offer to Yashoda Ma, who is showering her love to you incessantly!!" Such is Bhagawan's compassion which transcends reason.

Bhagawan out of his compassion and love towards Arjuna, protected him during the time of crisis, when he dropped his bow in fear and confusion and surrendered himself to the Lord.

Sri Swamigal wraps up the song telling Krishna that Swamigal has hence taken refuge unto HIM.

This wonderful song set to the tune of Asaveri, is occasionally sung during the Nithya-Dolosavam while fanning the Lord.
