The Story:
This wonderful song was composed by Sri Swamigal, during a Divya Nama Sankirtanam,
on the last week of March 1998.
Mr Ramani and Mrs Padma Ramani are amongst the ardent devotees of Premika Varadan
and Sri Swamigal. Sometime in late March this year, Sri Swamigal arranged for
a Divya Nama Keertanam at their residence in Mambalam, Chennai. They had a beautiful
idol of Sri Krishna as a small child, sitting on a rock with his lovely legs
dangling. In the course of the Nama Kirtanam, Sri Swamigal had a divine vision
of this Krishna kicking his legs and throwing a tantrum like a kid, which appeared
like a dance to him!
At once Sri Swamigal broke into this sweet song...
"Kanna, you are dancing here.. You, who are the Lord of this cosmos is dancing here,
much to the wonder and surprise of those who are seeing this. But dancing is
not new to you!
When you were a small kid in Gokulam, you used to go house to house dancing for
butter; then in Srivanam, you danced with the damsels in Rasotsavam on danced on
Kaliyan to save Brindavan. When Sant Naam Devar sang bhajans with other saints,
you rushed there to dance with them in spontaneous joy, even oblivious of your
Pithambaram slipping away.
To curb the pride of Indra and to save the Cowherds you lifted the Govardhana hill,
covering all like an umbrella to protect them from rain. You knew that the Gopas
and Gopis love you so much that they wouldn't bear to see you undertake hardships.
So to prove that such a feat is not in any way hard to you, you started
dancing, while lifting the hill."
In the last stanza Sri Swamigal asked the Lord,"All this is fine, but why are you
dancing here?"
And, Sri Swamigal ended the song with, "Kannan is dancing before me as he wants
Bhajanam always from me".
So Sri Swamigal ended this song saying that Kannan danced before him, demanding
more and more Bhajans from him!
