'BHAGAWÃN's AKSHARAMANAMÃLAI' (5)
R.R. Sabha, Chennai
16th October -- 21st October, 1995
& 24-25th October, 1995
Sri Swamiji has been rendering ‘Upanyãs’ (discourses), in Tamizh. This is being brought to you here.
There may appear to be variations in the ‘tense’ of the language. This is due to the fact
that great effort has been taken to maintain the original style of the ‘Upanyãs’.
Therefore, we request you to keep this in mind while reading
the translated ‘words’ of Sri Swamiji.

Sri Swamiji,
“
Such a great Mahan as Ganapathi Muni told Bhagavan that in spite of severe penance, the path to reach the Supreme
remained unclear. Bhagavan replied that the goal of the penance was to observe where the sound of the mantra was coming from..
Bhagavan's reply led Ganapathi Muni onto the right maarga(path). Rejuvenated, he conferred the title of ‘Margadarshi Maharshi’ on Bhagavan.
Sri Bhagavan can be called as ‘Guru Ratnam’ since he was celeberated by great Mahatmas like Sheshadri Swamigal and Ganapathi Muni. Almost all the contemporary
Mahatmas have visited Bhagavan while he was at Tiruvannamalai.
Most of the spiritual aspirants practicing meditation must have read the book ‘Autobiography of a Yogi’. This
book is about Paramahamsa Yogananda. He also had Bhagavan's darshan. There was a Mahan called ‘Narayana Guru’ in Kerala. He had vowed not
to visit any temple or Mahan. But when he heard of Bhagavan, he broke his vow and went to have darshan of Bhagavan.
Yogi Ramsuratkumar is a renowned Mahan who lived at Tiruvannamalai. His Guru was Papa Ramdas. He practiced austerities only with the blessings of Bhagavan.
He calls Bhagavan as ‘Father' and has said that Bhagavan had graced him.
Each one of them is a great Mahatma. They themselves have lots of disciples. It is not an exaggeration to say that such great Mahans too took
shelter under Bhagavan.
While deciding the period of incarnation of Sri Adi Shankara, all his followers abide by the decision of a certain foreigner. Why? Because, he was very
skeptical about Shankara. He analyzed the whole of ‘Shankara Vijayam’ and has criticized many incidents that has been reported in it. Such a person’s
decision about the period of Sri Shankara’s incarnation will certainly be right! In a book called ‘A search in secret India’, Paul Brunton has written his experiences
with the various ‘saints’ or Mahans he had met while wandering in India. He moves with them closely and finally ends up criticising them! We can say that
no one was spared from his criticism.
The critique, ‘Paul Brunton’ accepts only two people as ‘Real’ Mahans in his book – Sri Chandrashekara Saraswati Swamigal (Maha Periyava) and
Sri Ramana Maharshi.
No body can understand Maha Periyava's opinion on any matter. When Paul Brunton visited Periyava, he did not pay much heed to him at first. But before Paul Brunton left, Maha Periyava
made him promise that he would not leave India without visiting Sri Ramana Maharshi at Tiruvannamalai.
Periyava was a great Mahan, a realized soul (Jeevan Muktha) who lived during our lifetime. When one studies his lifestyle, one is led to wonder if
it was He who was Vashishta in the yonder days. It was Maha Periyava who directed Paul Brunton to Ramana Maharshi.
