Sri Swamiji has been rendering ‘Upanyãs’ (discourses), in Tamizh. This is being brought to you here.

There may appear to be variations in the ‘tense’ of the language. This is due to the fact that great effort has been taken to maintain the original style of the ‘Upanyãs’. Therefore, we request you to keep this in mind while reading the translated ‘words’ of Sri Swamiji.

It is absolutely necessary for every man to take refuge in a Guru. Who could that Guru be? How do we identify the Guru?

- Sri Swamiji

Sri Swamiji,

The Shopkeepers at Thiruvannãmalai used to long for a visit of Sheshãdri Swamigal to their shop. Swamigal would visit a shop and throw out everything from the shop or scatter them here and there - the shopkeepers would have a good business that day. He would snatch away the textbook from a studying child and tear it to pieces. That child would turn into a genius. Such was his grace!

It was Sri Sheshãdri Swamigal, who found Bhagavãn Ramana at 'Pãthãla Guhai' and introduced him to the world.

Sheshãdri Swamigal is a 'Ãdhikãrika Purusha'. Referring to Bhagavãn he used to say, "If I have earned 10 rupees, this Swãmi has earned 100 rupees." This itself proves that the appellation of 'Guru Ratnam' to Bhagavãn is not an exaggerated praise.

While Bhagavãn was staying at 'Virupãkshi' cave, Sheshãdri Swamigal used to endlessly prostrate to Arunãchaleshwara. Bhagavãn would ask, "Who is prostrating? What is being prostrated?" Swamigal would say that he knew nothing. Bhagavãn would then talk of Vedãnta. He would talk of 'Ãtma Vichãra'(Self Enquiry) too. Swamigal would always say to the devotees of Bhagavãn that the very sight of Bhagavãn would suffice. Indeed "Only Mahãtmas can know Mahãtmas."

Next we should see how 'Kavya Kanta Ganapathi Muni' was. His father performed penance at Banares praying for a child. Since the child was born by the grace of the Lord of the kshetra, 'Dundi Ganapathi', he was named 'Ganapathi'. His skill in composing poems was deemed to be so very casual and efficient that it was said not to have come through intellect but straight from his 'kanta'(throat). So, he was called 'Kãvya Kanta Ganapathi'. He was also called as 'Suriya Ganapathi'.

He was 'Mantramileshwarar'. No body could win an argument with him in any assembly. He could talk for or against any topic. He was an expert astrologer. He was a great tapasvi. If he cursed, the entire land would burn to ashes. While he was doing penance at Udupi Kshetra, he was in the state of Samãdhi for six days. "

GOPIKA JEEVANASMARANAM!
GOVINDA! GOVINDA!”
