Swamigal Speaks

<Prev |  Next>

"It beats how one can attain Jnana through mere chanting of the Mahamantra!"

Sri Sri Swamiji:

“Don’t we know what pleases one whom we are well acquainted with? Likewise, Mahans who are fully acquainted with God have declared that nothing pleases Him as does the Mahamantra kirtan. Even though a mother always possesses affection for her child does she not feel proud of him for some worthy act of his? In the same way, even though God always has compassion for us, it transforms into pride and ultimately Grace if we keep performing the Mahamantra kirtan. When compassion thus transforms into Grace it becomes verily Jnaana.”

“Of what use are the Upanishads, Brahmasutram, Bhagavat Gita and J.K.’s philosophy for a layman?”

Sri Sri Swamiji:

“Is it right for one to question, ‘when so there are so many illiterates how would the efforts of an individual in some research field help them’? On receiving education would not these people comprehend the significance of the research carried out and their benefits and appreciate it? Would not all benefit by these researches? Likewise, these Holy Texts and philosophy enlightens on ‘mano dharma’. Peace is much more important than food, clothing and shelter. The glory of these Texts is that they offer peace."

“The Bhagavat Gita says that Jnana is the highest state. As such how can one attain the highest state by merely chanting the Lord’s Divine Name?”

Sri Sri Swamiji:

“It is verily in this Bhagavat Gita that the Lord has said, ‘swalpam api asya dharmasya traayate mahato bhayaat!’—even if you perform the smallest dharma I will protect you from the worst fear. Smallest dharma is verily Naamasankirtan and ignorance [‘ajnaana’] the worst fear. Annihilation of ajnaana is verily Jnaana.”
