Judaism and Jews (2)

So far, the Tamizh magazine ‘Madhuramurali’ of our Mission has carried several unique features of our Sanatana Dharma as also the essence of the Vedas and the Hindu Epics. Sri Sri Swamiji desires that we throw light on other ancient religions and cultures of the world as well, in Madhuramurali. Accordingly, Dr. A. Bagyanathan has been discussing about Judaism.

The core religious text of Judaism is Torah. At first it was not in script form.

Oral Torah is based on the doctrines instructed by God to Moses on Mount Sinai. It was only later that the script form of Torah came into existence. Since Torah, like our Vedas, was learnt only by word of mouth (as ‘sutraas’) and was not in script form many scholars and Rabbis have given explanations and commentaries from various perspectives. There are notes, in some places, to say that the interpretation of one may contradict another’s.

Though there are different perspectives majority of the people accept the 13 rules of Maimonides.

  1. I believe that it is only God who has always created, creates and would create everything. Glory unto His Name!

  2. I strongly believe that always God is only one. Glory unto His Name!

  3. God is beyond this subtle body and the gross world. He is matchless. Glory unto His Name!

  4. God is the origin and the end. Glory unto His Name!

  5. God is the only one worthy of worship. None else is worthy of worship. Glory unto His Name!

  6. I fully believe that the work and the words of Mahans are true.

  7. I fully believe the doctrines laid down by Moses. He is the leader of all Jewish Masters.

  8. I believe that the Torah we have today is the one that God had instructed Moses.

  9. Torah will not be distorted in any way.

  10. God knows each and every thought and action of ours. Glory unto His Name!

  11. God bestows His grace on those who live by his doctrines. Offenders are punished.

  12. The day of God’s incarnation on this earth is not far off. Glory unto His Name!

  13. When God thus incarnates He would bring back the dead. Glory unto His Name!
