The Master's Mantra
Sri Sri Swamiji during Namasankirtan in a devotee's
home said, pointing to the (clay) idol of Krishna
placed there -
"When a person looks at the idol of
Krishna he might feel that he is looking at only a toy
Krishna. And, when he happens to touch it he might
feel that he is touching only a toy Krihna.
Nonetheless, when he is asked to utter the Name of
Krishna (Krishna!) he at once feels that he is
uttering the Name of God! He does not feel that he is
uttering the name of just a toy Krishna. This is the
power of the words from within! When one needs to get into the waters, he should have known to swim. However, swimming has to be learnt by getting into the water. The imprints of lust anger and fear are destroyed only by Bhakti. But in order to acquire Bhakti, one should try to stay away from lust anger and fear."
Sri Sri Swamiji's Song:

The Translation:
(sung in the tune of ‘Brindavanamum Nandakumaaranum’)
Look within! Look within!
Look within! Oh, My dear!
If you are unable to (look within)
Look! Look! Look at Krishna without!
Speak not! Speak not!
Speak not! Oh, My dear!
If you are unable to
Speak then always about Krishna!
Eat not! Eat not!
Eat not! Oh, My dear!
If you are unable to
Eat then the remains of Krishna’s food!
Hear not! Hear not!
Hear not! Oh, My dear!
If you are unable to
Hear then always Krishna’s Lila!
Loiter not! Loiter not!
Loiter not! Oh, My dear!
If you desire to
Go then to Krishna’s Temple!
This is the only way! This is the only way!
This is the only way! Oh, My dear!
Be alert! do not fail
And, embrace liberation!

The Paduka
Sriman Nigamãntha Desikan, a great Vaishnava Saint lived from
mid-thirteenth to mid-fourteenth century- 1268-1369. Of the innumerable
'Granthas' (texts) written by Him
the highly revered and considered as the most extraordinary piece is His
"Pãduka Sahasram" - a thousand verses on the 'Pãduka' of Lord Ranganãtha.
The Saint has in all composed 1008 verses, the last eight apologizing
in all humility for daring to compose these 1000 verses on the Pãduka!
Sri Desikan's contemporary Sri Appayya Dikshitar had written a
commentary on the "Pãduka Sahasram" but unfortunately it has been lost.

Oh! Twin-Paduke!
You two together guiding us
appears to illustrate to us,
who have
forsaken the ways of Sadhus and are also lazy,
the need for both
Divine Grace and human effort!
