Title: 'Gurudev Ramakrishna'
Sri Sri Swamiji, often, in the course of His discourses, says that Mahãtmas and Brahma Jnãnis never say 'This is my opinion. You should follow it'. They always say "This is how it has been stated in the Vedas, Shãastras and Purãnas and so is the basis. If it is followed, one can attain a good state." But the Vedas, Shãstras and Purãnas say that this is how Self-realized Brahma Jnãnis opine. Thus, we infer that the words of the Vedas, Shãstras and Purãnas and the experience of a true Mahãtma are alike. I happened to read an interesting illustration in this regard, in a book "Gurudev Ramakrishna" written by Sri Saradananda and published by Sri Ramakrishna Mutt. When King Venan's life is described in Srimad Bhagavatam, it is said that the sages churned the thighs of the king and from that came a gory figure with pitch-black color and blood-red eyes. He was the embodiment of Sin ('Pãva purusha'). When Gurudev Ramakrishna describes about his performing spiritual Sãdhana in Panchavati, he says, "One day, while I was performing dhyãna, I had an unbearable pain. From my body emerged a black form with red eyes and gory looks. He was staggering like a drunkard. I realized that he is the embodiment of sin. Then another form with ochre robes emerged out of my body and burnt down the former." Reading this, one can discern the similarities between the description in Srimad Bhãgavatam and that of Sri Ramakrishna.
