Swamigal Speaks

"Desire is the root cause of all evils" is the main spiritual teaching of the Buddha. But, is it not due to desire on his part that he traveled from place to place preaching his philosophy?

Sri Sri Swamiji:

When we walk along a road, we happen to see an ice cream parlour. A thought arises in our mind to partake of the ice cream. Such a thought is desire. At the same time, if we help an accident victim, that is 'Compassion'. Likewise, traveling from village to village and imparting the message of truth realized by him to the mankind in order that they may be emancipated is due to sheer compassion, akin to the adage- "Let the world enjoy what I have experienced

I am planning to quit my job and start practicing meditation intensely. I seek your permission for the same.

Sri Sri Swamiji:

If you play on the veena very softly, no sound will emanate. Whereas strings will break off if you play on it hard. Only if you play on it moderately, pleasant music is produced. Similarly, to reach God, spiritual Sãdhanas have to be practiced slowly & steadily, step by step, without any haste.

If I see God in person, I can fulfill all my prayers, Can't I?

Sri Sri Swamiji:

Seeing God in dream, seeing God in meditation is all different. A man attains complete dharsan of God only when all the objects related to the world disappear, i.e., only when his body disappears. In that state he cannot pray for anything. Only some Mahãns can retain their body even after seeing God. It is only through them that God blesses the whole world.
