Sri Sri Swamiji     The Master's Mantra

    The Pãduka

The Master's Mantra

Sri Sri Swamiji -

  • Both good and bad come out of the use of fire. Good comes out of fire when used properly/carefully and we have to face the repercussions if we are careless. The same way one should be very careful in his approach to Mahăns. We should pay attention to them and learn how to behave towards them. We should understand their feelings ('hridayam arindu') and behave in such a way as to please them. We should never argue with them. We should not criticize them on any account. We should not try to 'outsmart' them with our talks or behaviour. Our behaviour should be such as to please them. Our thoughts should move in such direction as to please the Mahăns.

  • The real 'anugraha' (blessings) of the Lord is removing the veil of Maya (illusion) from us.

  • The mind is a Maya and this Maya will try to pull you out of the company of the Guru. It will, time and again, instruct you to leave the 'Satsang' (Company of the Sadhu/Guru). Take control of such thoughts and always live in His Presence. Maya will always try to pull you out of Bhagavat Bhakti. But you should, with maturity ('viveka') hold on to Bhagavat bhakti.

The Paduka

Sri Sri Swamiji's Paduka

Sriman Nigamãntha Desikan, a great Vaishnava Saint lived from mid-thirteenth to mid-fourteenth century- 1268-1369. Of the innumerable 'Granthas' (texts) written by Him the highly revered and considered as the most extraordinary piece is His "Pãduka Sahasram" - a thousand verses on the 'Pãduka' of Lord Ranganãtha. The Saint has in all composed 1008 verses, the last eight apologizing in all humility for daring to compose these 1000 verses on the Pãduka!

Sri Desikan's contemporary Sri Appayya Dikshitar had written a commentary on the "Pãduka Sahasram" but unfortunately it has been lost.
