'Madhuramãna Mahãneeyar' Recently, Sri Sri Swamiji spoke very interestingly on the service to the Lord. There are 63 Nãyanmãrs (the prominent devotees of Lord Siva). Yet, only four are acclaimed. Many reasons have been accredited to this. There is yet another reason for this. These four Nãyanmãrs exemplify 'what is service to the Lord and how should one go about serving the Lord.' The most important factor in service of the Lord is renovating and conducting 'kumbãbhishekam' of Temples, the residence of the Lord. Manickavãsagar has illustrated this to us by using the money given to him by the king for the purchase of horses in Ãvudaiyãr Temple renovation. Once the Temples have been renovated and 'kumbãbhishekam' performed one should attend to it regularly so that it does not get into dilapidated state again. This service is called 'uzhavãra paNi'. Thirunãvukkarasa demonstrated this. An important factor in the service of the Lord is the need to condemn impious faiths and establish Vaidika mata (one based on the Vedas). Jnãna Sambanda illustrated this by condemning Jainism and establishing Saiva faith. Sundaramurti Nayanar has illustrated to us that a Bhakta should always serve the Lord and His devotees with joy. Those who are involved in the service of the Lord can know their duties from the lives of these four Nãyanmars.
