'Madhuramãna Mahãneeyar'
Sri Sri Swamiji usually does not involve in matters like 'yantra', 'tantra' and other spell casting techniques. He always says that its enough to do Bhakti and sing the Nama and that there is nothing more powerful than Nama Sankirtan. Sometime in 2004, an elderly person who was very devoted to Swamiji, gave Him a special amulet (a string on which spells have been cast, generally to repel evils, and is usually tied on the wrist/arm) and affectionately compelled Him to wear it. Unable to disrespect his words and bound by his love, Sri Sri Swamiji wore the amulet too. The same day, Sri Sri Swamiji visited a small village next to Chennai called Chettipunniyam and visited a temple there. There was Sri Hayagreeva's Sannadhi there and next to it was Sri Rama's sannadhi. The 'archaka' while speaking about Sri Rama, said "There is a specialty with this idol of Sri Rama that no other deity has. When Viswamitra took Rama and Lakshmana for 'yajna samrakshana' (protecting the austerities of the sages against demons), he tied a specially spelt amulet in Rama's foot in order that the latter not be affected by any evils." Saying thus, he showed the amulet-tied leg of the deity. Seeing this, Sri Sri Swamiji felt as though Sri Rama himself told Him, "I am myself sporting the amulet bound by the love of Viswamitra. There is no harm in you wearing one too!" Thus Sri Sri Swamiji narrated his experience. - A. Bhagyanathan
