The essence of Krishna Avatãr

<Prev |  Next>

The lord of Vaikunta, the embodiment of 'Sat-Chit-Ãnanda' (truth-bliss-consciousness), verily came down to Earth as Sri Rama in the Ramãvatãr. Even men were attracted to the beauty of Sri Rama (Sri Valmiki Ramãyana reads: 'pumsãm mohana roopãya'). When Sri Rama wandered along with Sita and Lakshmana in the 'Dandaka' forest, even the sages and ascetics admired his beauty and expressed their desire to embrace him. Sri Rama replied, " You can take birth as Gopikas and embrace me in my next avatãr.". Thus the Lord took Krishna Avatãr.

The sages and devas took the form of Gopikas and had a chance to embrace the Lord.
Nanda became the embodiment of 'ãnanda',
Yasoda - 'Mukti',
Devaki - Brahma's daughter,
Vasudeva - Vedas and
Balarama & Krishna - the essence of the Vedas.

Thus the Lord took Krishãvatãr and played with the gopikas in Sri Brindãvan.

In addition the following are the avatars and their real natures:

The cows were the 'ritviks',
The wand in Sri Krishna's hands - the lotus seat
The flute - Lord Siva
The horn - Indra
The daemons - lust, anger, greed, envy
Balarama - Ãdi Sesha
Gopas - the 8808 Riks
Gopikas - the Upanishads
Chãnura - hatred
Mushtika - envy
Elephant Kuvalãyapita - cunningness
Demon - pride
Rohini - pity
Satyabhama - the Earth
Agãsura - Disease
Kamsa - Kali
Friend Kuchela - humility
Uddhava and Akroora - 'Tamo' guna
Butter Pot - The divine ocean ('Pãrkadal')

Chakra - the Vedas
Shanka - Lakshmi
Vaijayanti Mãla - Vãyu
Chãmara - Dharma
Mortar ('ural')- Kashyapa
Rope - Athiti
Gada (mace) - Kãli
'Sãrnga' the bow - Mãya
'Pãndeera' the banyan tree - Garuda
Sudãma - Nãrada
Tulasi - Bhakti

The Upanishads state that one who thus understands Sri Krishna's avatãr gets freed from the clutches of Mãya and attains eternal bliss.
