While there are innumerable ancient Temples in dilapidated state new Temples keep sprouting up! Even the simple, daily pujas are not being performed properly. Why? Sri Sri Swamiji: May be people think that Temple construction/renovation bestows 'punya' (merits)! This sad state of affair would not exist if one remembers that performance of proper and regular puja and proper maintenance of the Temple is also necessary following its construction/renovation. It is seen that most of the religions do not give equal status to man and woman! Why? Sri Sri Swamiji: Well! When the head of a Nation is on a visit extensive security measures are taken up. The security officers restrict his movement in various ways - he has to take only the specified route, occupy a certain seat on the stage, should not mingle with the crowd, etc. Is not the safety of the Official that is the cause behind such action? Two important Epics of our Sanãtana Dharma are the Srimad Ramayana and the Mahãbhãrata. In Srimad Ramayana, the Consort of the Lord is abducted by an Asura. In the Mahãbhãrata, Draupadi having the five Pãndavas as the husband is humiliated in the court of the Kauravas. These only go to show that this world is not very safe for women! In this country, do we not worship the mother and women verily as Goddess? Therefore, it is not the intention of the founder of any religion to refuse equal status to women. The rules in various religious have been laid down considering the security and welfare of women more important than equal rights.
