'Madhuramãna Mahaneeyar'

(Tamizh Madhuramurali October, 2005)

Sri Swamiji called a few of the satsang devotees before a few days and told them that He was having some strange experiences and that he found it difficult to indulge in activities and so requested that He stay in solitude for a few days. Accordingly, it was decided that the Brahmotsav, that usually is celebrated in connection with Gokulãshtami would not take place this year. Sri Swamiji was firm in this decision.

Two days before Gokulãshtami, Sri Swamiji had come to Premika Bhavanam in Chennai, for a darshan of Sri Srinivãsa Perumãl. As He was singing kirthans, there was a change in His mind. He decided to celebrate the Brahmotsava this year. Despite of a short span of two days, arrangements to celebrate the Brahmotsava were done at a quick pace. All the devotees took part in the celebrations. The function was celebrated with all grandeur. In the course of the utsav, Sri Swamiji, sang and danced in exuberance.

Two years ago, Brahmasri V. Swãminãtha Ãthreya Sãstrigal discoursed on Srimad Rãmãyana in Premika Bhavanam, Chennai. It could not be completed fully then. All attempts to re-organize and complete it bore no fruit. It looked like Premika Varadan wanted to listen to Srimad Rãmãyana during His utsav. Brahmasri Swãminãtha Ãthreya’s discourse on Srimad Rãmãyana was arranged. Without caring for his physical tiredness, Brahmashri Swaminatha Athreya, in his old age, spoke enthusiastically like a child everyday for two hours in the morning and two hours in the evening. Words cannot express the excitement that he had in praising the qualities of Rama.

The discourse continued for three days after the utsav. On the last day, Madhurapuri Ãshram was transformed into Ayodhya. Assuming Kalyãna Srinivãsa Perumãl Temple to be Nandhigrãma, Sri Rama was given a warm welcome with 'poornakumba', amidst the music, Nãma kirtan and chanting of the Vedas. The performance of 'Thirumanjana' for Rama and His 'Pattãbisheka' (coronation) were a feast to everyone's eyes. All the devotees present, coronated Rama with their own hands.

Kanakãbishekam was performed to Brahmashri Swãminãtha Ãthreya. All the devotees bid farewell half-heartedly saying that coronation that took place for one day was grander than the utsavam that was celebrated for ten days!
