The Master's Mantra
Sri Sri Swamiji -
Why does Bhagavãn incarnate? Is it to destroy the demons, [as explained by many]? Were there demons only during the 125 years of life of Bhagavãn, as Krishna? No! Demon means the demonic nature in man. Therefore, Bhagavãn incarnates to destroy the demonic nature in man and bestow Liberation on him!

The Translation:
Pallavi
The ever-worshipped Muraliidhara!
protector of the good! Oh Premika Varada!
Anupallavi
Eternal resident of 'prema-bhakta' heart!
Oh! One with beautiful countenance!
Charanams
Remembering the Name of the Sadguru!
Doing service to the Sadguru!
Fondling the Sadguru's [Lotus] Feet!
Blissful is my life!
Oh! What fortune!
Desire-filled devotion is not my goal!
Liberation, too, I disregard!
Let me live in the shadow of Your [Lotus] Feet!
Bestow me with Your remembrance
in the last moment!
Wasteful is my birth without Your darshan!
Meaningful is my birth with Your darshan!
Let the relationship between us remain eternal!
This very thought (of everlasting relationship)
makes the heart joyful!

The Paduka
Sriman Nigamãntha Desikan, a great Vaishnava Saint lived from
mid-thirteenth to mid-fourteenth century- 1268-1369. Of the innumerable
'Granthas' (texts) written by Him
the highly revered and considered as the most extraordinary piece is His
"Pãduka Sahasram" - a thousand verses on the 'Pãduka' of Lord Ranganãtha.
The Saint has in all composed 1008 verses, the last eight apologizing
in all humility for daring to compose these 1000 verses on the Pãduka!
Sri Desikan's contemporary Sri Appayya Dikshitar had written a
commentary on the "Pãduka Sahasram" but unfortunately it has been lost.

Pãduke!
The shadow of the Lotus Feet
of the Lord
when about to be set on You
appears like a Lotus
spread on Yourself, by You!
It must be due to Your consideration and concern
'how can the soft, delicate (Lotus) Feet of the Lord
be placed on the hard gems studded on My surface!'
