The Master's Mantra
Sri Swamiji -
A person had the power to foretell the future. Mentioning a date, he warned his friend, that an accident would befall him on that date. He also said that the accident can never be averted, no matter what. But nothing happend on the day that he had mentioned. The foreteller did not feel happy that nothing happend to his friend; he was rather worried that his predictins went wrong. Such is the egoistic feeling of "I" in humans.
We are prepared to spend years together in this world for studies which help us earn our livelihood thereby providing us with a life of comfort and luxury. But when it comes to spiritual life, we have the least patience and we expect results as soon as we start practicing the discipline.
Nãradarai pannindiduvom...

Sri Swamiji's Song:
Nãradarai pannindiduvom vãreer
vãniyin pudalvarai
veenaiyai daritthavarai
panniley paramanai
pãdum anda (nãradarai...)
bhaktaril mudalvarãm bhakti alippavarãm
nãda moorthiyin pãda malar potri
dharanithanil bhakthi thazhaikka vendi
Muralidharanudan nãmum serndhu (nãradarai...)
|
The Translation:
Come ! Let us prostrate unto Nãrada!!
Son of Vãni (Saraswati)!
One who holds the lute in his hands!
One who praises the lord through songs and hymns!
The foremost among devotees!
One who blesses people with devotion!
Let us praise the lotus feet of the very embodiment of nãda (music)!
Along with Muralidhara let us also salute him
for bhakthi to flourish in this world !!

The Paduka
Sriman Nigamãntha Desikan, a great Vaishnava Saint lived from
mid-thirteenth to mid-fourteenth century- 1268-1369. Of the innumerable
'Granthas' (texts) written by Him
the highly revered and considered as the most extraordinary piece is His
"Pãduka Sahasram" - a thousand verses on the 'Pãduka' of Lord Ranganãtha.
The Saint has in all composed 1008 verses, the last eight apologizing
in all humility for daring to compose these 1000 verses on the Pãduka!
Sri Desikan's contemporary Sri Appayya Dikshitar had written a
commentary on the "Pãduka Sahasram" but unfortunately it has been lost.

jãtasrame mayi Janãrdana Pãdarakshe! |
ãsvãsanãya puratah prasarantu mãtah
vãrtãharãstava ravãh samitãrtayo me || (439)
Oh! Lord's Pãduke!
in my last moment, when
all my 'indriyãs' cease to function
let me hear your melodious sound
and,
console me with the words
'The Lord shall take care of you!'
