Srimad Bhãgavatam:11:7:24-47

18. YOUNG GIRL

A young girl who was left alone at home had to attend to unexpected guests. She went to the backyard of the house to pound some grains. The bangles worn in her hand made noise. So, she wore just two on each hand breaking the rest of them. But even these made noise. So, she broke one on each hand and the remaining one did not make any noise. She could now work quietly. The priceless lesson that I learnt from this young girl was that living amongst many people caused quarrels and discontent. Even two people were enough to cause disharmony. So, like the bangle on the girl’s hand one should be alone in the world.

19. THE ARCHER

An archer while aiming at the target was not aware of what was happening around him. He did not even notice a king pass by. The target held his total concentration and the only thought in him was to hit it. Concentration is absolutely essential for a man who desires to attain one-ness with the Paramătama. This comes only by practice. The restless mind jumps from one object to another ceaselessly. But the controlled mind gives up desires on it own accord and is free from ‘văsanas’.

20. THE SNAKE

A snake avoids the company of men and lives alone. It has no place of its own to live. So, too, should a sanyãsi be. He should live away from other humans and not have a home of his own, which is the beginning of other bondages

21. THE WASP

The worm that the wasp holds in a shell becomes another wasp in due course of time, as it constantly thinks of the wasp. The dehin (the dweller in the body), too, becomes the object of thought which occupies him to the exclusion of other thoughts. When the mind thinks of the Lord with deep concentration it will, in course of time, become one with the Lord.
