Sri Sri Swamiji     The Master's Mantra
    Sri Swamiji's Kirtan
    The Paduka

The Master's Mantra

Sri Swamiji -

  • "A Guru is like a sugar coated pill. Out of love, we put the pill in our mouth in a hurry. Then, we find that we can neither spit it out, nor swallow it completely! The medicine has to be assimilated. It gets digested only after it destroys the ego (Ahamkãra) and the 'sense of possessiveness' (Mamakãra) of the disciple."

Venu Gopãlam Pranamãmi !...

Sri Swamiji's Song:

Pallavi

Venu Gopãlam Pranamãmi...

Anupallavi

Madhura Venu gãnena
Mangalam sarvatra sadã kurvantam
                                          (Venu Gopãlam...)

Charanam

Go mandala madhye sundara bãlakam
Gopi hrudaya ranjana bhuvana sundaram
Brahma garva bhanjana pãvana charitram
Muralidhara hrudaya dhyãna swaroopam

                                           (Venu Gopãlam...)

The Translation:

Pallavi

Prostrations unto Lord Venu Gopãla!

Anupallavi

One who sanctifies the universe
by melodiously playing His flute !

Charanam

The charming one amidst the herds of cows!
One who enchants the hearts of Gopis!
One who curbed the pride of Brahma!
One who is meditated upon in the heart of Muralidhara!

The Paduka

Sri Swamigal's Paduka

Sriman Nigamantha Desikan, a great Vaishnava Saint lived from mid-thirteenth to mid-fourteenth century- 1268-1369. Of the innumerable 'Granthas' (texts) written by Him the highly revered and considered as the most extraordinary piece is His "Paduka Sahasram" - a thousand verses on the 'Paduka' of Lord Ranganatha. The Saint has in all composed 1008 verses, the last eight apologizing in all humility for daring to compose these 1000 verses on the Paduka!

Sri Desikan's contemporary Sri Appayya Dikshitar had written a commentary on the "Paduka Sahasram" but unfortunately it has been lost.

Oh! Pãduka!
The guardians of the eight quarters
  enjoy longevity
  how?
  Only because their consorts wear
  Your image
  on their golden 'tirumãngalya'!

“ Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare!
