Kamalãmbãl, the wife of Sri Thyãgarãja Swami was suffering from stomach ache. Kamalãmbãl notices that Thyãgarãja Swãmi is unable to bear the pain of seeing his wife suffer. Unable to see him suffer, she tries to hide her pain. Sri Thyãgarãja Swami in turn tries to hide his suffering, thinking that in addition to the stomach ache, she would feel more pain seeing him suffer. Such an excellent couple they were!

Thyãgarãja had a disciple called Rãmarãya. He could not stand to witness the pain suffered by his Guru's wife. He came to have Thyãgarãja Swami's darshan. He said, "today, you will see that sister-in-law will be cured of her illness". When Thyãgarãja asked how he could be so affirmative, Rãmarãya replied, "You wouldn't get anything if you don't get it by force. To get Lord Rãma to help us out, I did something."

Thyãgarãja Swami inquisitively asked as to what he had done. Rãmarãya replied, "Do you know where I stopped my Rãmãyana pãrãyana? Rãvana has lifted away Sita. Rãma is coming back and looking out for Sita. He has not yet met Jatãyu to learn that Rãvana has taken away Sita. I have stopped it at this juncture. Let Rãma cry out! Only after sister-in-law gets well am I going to let Jatãyu tell Rãma that Sita is alive."

Hearing this, Thyãgarãja Swami fell at Rãmarãya's feet. Thyãgarãja was extremely pleased and said "Rãma had appeared in this world ages back. When reading the story, you are enjoying it as if it has just happened! You are verily a Bhãgavata; I should have been blessed in crores of my janmas to have got a disciple like you!" Slowly everyone calmed him down and Rãmarãya fell at Thyãgarãja's feet and started crying.

Thus, in order to show the situations in which Thyãgarãja sang each of his kirtans, Swãminãtha Ãthreya paints a vivid picture of the incidents in Thyãgarãja's life in his book "Sri Thyãgarãja Anubhavangal" (The experiences of Sri Thyãgarãja).
