All attempts to control my mind in meditation bear no fruit. All sorts of thoughts keep arising. What should I do? Sri Sri Swamiji: When such thoughts arise, experiencing them as 'the thoughts are nothing but me' will bring the mind to control in short span of time. It is said that when one is in the peak of devotion (Bhakti), mere listening to the Name of the Lord would bring tears in one's eyes and the body experiences quiver. Does this happen always or only once a while? Sri Sri Swamiji: When the mind attains pure sãtvic state, one undergoes such experiences. Innumerable devotees like Nammãzhvar, Mira, Ãndal were always in this state. Why do saints have the staff ('dhanda') made out of bamboo? Sri Sri Swamiji: They have this 'dhanda' so that they do not experience any hurdles in their 'tapas' (spiritual austerities) or dhyana. It is said in the Shãstrãs that all the Devas reside in the 'dhanda'.
