The Master's Mantra

Sri Swamiji -

  • “Srimad Bhăgavatam is ‘svayam’ (in ‘Itself’) Bhagavăn. Srimad Bhăgavatam is greater than the Ramayana, the Bhagavad Gita or any other great Epic because mere listening to the Bhăgavatam takes one to Moksha."

Unnai inri enakku pugalidam edhu?

Sri Swamiji's Song:

Unnai inri enakku pugalidam edhu?
Sharanam adainden Panduranga!

Deenan ennidam krupai seiyya vendum
Karumai nirattoney karunaiyin kadaley!

Muralidhranukku Hariyidam Bhakthi
Piravi thorum nilaikka picchai ketkiren!

The Translation:

You are my sole refuge! Oh! Panduranga!
Where else shall I turn?
I surrender unto you!

Please shower your compassion
On this poor devotee of Yours!
Oh! The dark hued One!
Ocean of Compassion!

Oh! Muralidhara begs of You!
Bestow ever-lasting devotion
At the feet of Hari!

The Paduka

Sri Swamigal's Paduka

Sriman Nigamantha Desikan, a great Vaishnava Saint lived from mid-thirteenth to mid-fourteenth century- 1268-1369. Of the innumerable 'Granthas' (texts) written by Him the highly revered and considered as the most extraordinary piece is His "Paduka Sahasram" - a thousand verses on the 'Paduka' of Lord Ranganatha. The Saint has in all composed 1008 verses, the last eight apologizing in all humility for daring to compose these 1000 verses on the Paduka!

Sri Desikan's contemporary Sri Appayya Dikshitar had written a commentary on the "Paduka Sahasram" but unfortunately it has been lost.

“Vande Gãrutmateem vrutyã mannistomaiccha Pãdukãm |
yayã nityam tullasyeva Hartatvam prakãshyate || (661)

The Pãduka and the Garuda carry out similar duty –
– both carry the Lord!
I bow down to the Pãduka inset with emeralds whose
Devata is the Garuda!
The Pãduka is akin to the Tulasi, too!
Like the Garuda
The Pãduka illumines Hari-tatva (the Hari principle)
while the Tulasi is Harita-tva (greenness)!

“ Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare!
Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare !"
