Swamigal Speaks

“During the visit to a Temple why should not one directly go for darshan of the Deity?”

Sri Swamiji:

“Once, Bhagavãn Sri Ramana Maharshi, speaking on the art of Temple sculpture said that the sanctum sanctorum (‘karuvarai’) is built far away from the Temple Tower at the entrance and therefore, as anyone entering the Temple crosses each ‘prakãra’, one by one, his/her mind/heart gets purified and only on finally reaching the sanctum sanctorum does his/her mind get ecstatic with pure Bhakthi. Bhagavãn Ramana said that going round the Temple in circumambulation has also been prescribed only for this purpose.”

“Why does sleep overtakes quite frequently during dhyãna?”

Sri Swamiji:

H.H. Sri Sri Swamiji: “When someone asked a similar question to Bhagavãn

Sri Ramana Maharshi, He said, “It is very much necessary that one should be alert while doing sadhana. One should, as far as possible, guard himself/herself from sleep. However, it does not matter if one is overtaken by sleep. On waking up you should take hold of your line of dhyana and continue. Therefore, sleep is not a block for dhyana.”

“Some people, after having waited for hours together in a Temple for the darshan of the Deity, on reaching the sanctum sanctorum, instead enjoying the darshan of the Deity close their eyes spontaneously! Why?”

Sri Swamiji:

“Some people, after having waited for hours together in a Temple for the darshan of the Deity, on reaching the sanctum sanctorum, instead enjoying the darshan of the Deity close their eyes spontaneously! Why?”

H.H. Sri Sri Swamiji: “Bhagavãn Sri Ramana used to say, “This happens due to the fact that even without being aware of it we possess the ‘Jnana’ (knowledge) that the God in front of us is within us as the ‘Atma swaroopa’.”
