Chaitanya Mahãprabhu (50) Murari Gupta was a devotee of Sri Rama. Prabhu was well aware of his staunch devotion to Sri Rama. Yet, he wished to make it known to other devotees and so one day he went to Murari Gupta and said – “Murari! Rama and Krishna are one and the same. These are also one of God’s infinite forms. Whichever form or name of the Lord one worships, the attainment of the Lord is the same at the end. Still, Sri Krishna’s lilas are more interesting and full of rasa than that of Sri Rama’s. So, you must also leave alone Rama’s lilas and start worshipping Sri Krishna’s lilas. My heart felt desire is that you must enjoy only Sri Krishna’s lilas. From today onwards, you think of Krishna as your all and do puja, archana, meditation towards Him. Placing, Prabhu’s orders on his head, Murari Gupta started doing exactly as instructed by Him. But Murari Gupta’s mind, which had been used to worshipping Rama from his childhood, was now in turmoil. He was unable to set aside his devotion to Rama, which had set deep in his mind. He was, on the other hand, also unable to disobey his Guru’s orders. He was in a dilemma and he spent the whole night crying. Next day, he went to Prabhu with great humility and said in a weak voice,“Prabho! My heart is filled with devotion to Sri Rama. I am unable to follow your instructions with whole-heartedness. I am at a loss because neither can I abandon my worship of Sri Rama nor do I have the courage to disobey your orders." Prabhu saw him in this condition and became extremely happy and said – “Murari! You are fortunate! What a great steadfast devotion you possess! May you bless me that I may get such staunch devotion for Sri Krishna’s feet!” and embraced him. To be continued...
