Swamigal Speaks

“Some people willingly come forward to renovate old and demolished temples, in which pooja has not been done for a long time. Such people face a lot of obstacles and hurdles in this task. Some such people even die. It is said that these are caused due to their involvement in renovation. Is it true? Or is it just a matter of coincidence?”

Sri Swamiji:

“It is true that those people who get involved in the renovation of temples face obstacles and hurdles. It is not a matter of coincidence.”

“Some people willingly come forward to renovate old and demolished temples. Even if they do not face any good things, why should they face hurdles and miseries?“

Sri Swamiji:

“Is it not the duty of each one to take good care of our parents, who have given birth to us, brought us up and worked hard for our welfare? If we do not give them food for a few days, do not give them the required medicines and do not care for them for a few days, and then one fine day, go to them and ask what they want, they feel angry thinking that they have not been cared for all these days.

If every village and town is fertile, then it is only because of the Gods who have their temples in these villages and towns. If a family faces no miseries, then it is only because of their family God. If we do not care for these God, allow them to starve and do not turn towards them for a few days and then one fine day say, “ I will do this and that”, it is by all means right for these God to get angry with such doers. Hence such things happen.”

“If that is so, then how do we renovate such temples?”

Sri Swamiji:

“The Lord will never get angry with Mahans, who are His disciples. If renovation is done under the leadership of such Mahans, it would go on smoothly without any hurdles.”

“A few in my locality have been converted to Christianity. How can this be checked”

Sri Swamiji:

“We should go and campaign village by village, especially the ones grossly neglected by the society. Bakthi does not get propogated by merely building new temples and shrines.

Adorning the deities with gold and silver armors alone does not resurrect our religion. Making gold and silver palanquins for the Lord does not help in propagating Bakti. All the money spent in such things should get converted to Tulsi malas, Gopi Chandans and given to everyone in villages. It should be expended in doing Nama Prachara.

Christian missionaries get people converted in to their religion very silently and succinctly going village after village without any desire for fame, money or personal welfare. In the same way, people belonging to our religion should get involved untiringly and with a mentality of sacrifice. How much ever effort one puts, if not in the right direction and if not applicable to the current times, will not bear the right fruits.”
