Lord Siva on the glory of Sadhus

Lord Siva speaks on the glory of Sadhus!
(Srimad Bhãgavatam 12:10:20-25)

Mãrkandeya Maharshi was in deep meditation of Lord Nãrãyana when Lord Siva passed that way on His divine vehicle, the Bull, along with His Consort Uma. Impressed by the Maharshi’s tapas, Uma beseeched Her Lord, the giver of boons, to bless the Maharshi with the fruit of his tapas. Lord Siva said to Uma, “This Brahmarshi has attained to supreme devotion to the Mahapurusha (Sri Hari). Therefore, he nurtures neither Moksha nor any other desire. Yet, let us converse with this Maharshi, a Sadhu, for, the attainment of the company of Sadhus is indeed a great fortune.”

Lord Siva speaks to Mãrkandeya:
“Not only do all the ‘lokãs’ (worlds) and the ‘lokapãlãs’ (protecting deities) salute and worship the holy men who are disciplined, tranquil, detached, hold universal love, have one pointed devotion to Me, are without animosity and possess same sightedness but also Bhagavãn Brahma, Lord Hari and Myself salute and worship them on our own accord. These Sadhus see no difference between Brahma, Achyuta (Mahavishnu) and myself. Hence, We, the Trinity, honour you. No doubt the ‘Teertãs’ that are waters and the inert idols of deities do cleanse men. But, they do so only over a long period of time. But, you (Sadhus) purify men the instant your darshan is had. We salute the holy men who through their concentration of mind, spiritual austerities, study of the Vedas and control of their senses, hold us in our form as the [three] Vedas (‘trayeemayi’). By hearing the ‘charitrãs’ (life history) of such Sadhus and by the darshan of such Sadhus even the worst sinner and the lowest of the lowly are purified. What then to speak of those who enjoy closer contact with them like conversing?”
