Script from Scriptures (40) The sons of Rishabha Yogi - Kavi, Hari, Anthariksha, Prabuddha, Pippalãyana, Ãvirhotra, Drumila, Chamsa and Karabhãjana (also called as Navayogis) - who were great devotees, at the sacrifice conducted by the King Nimi - The King Nimi said, “Please expound in detail the various incarnations of the Lord in the past and those that are yet to occur in future.” Sage Drumila continued, “Incarnating in the form of a swan, Achuyata revealed the spiritual Truth. He again incarnated by a part of Himself as Datta, as the Kumaras, and as Rishaba our father. In the incarnation as Hayagriva, he recovered the vedas through the destruction of the Asura named Madhu. In the incarnation as fish, he saved king Satyavrata, the earth and vegetation from the destructive deluge. In the incarnation as the cosmic Boar, the Asura Hiranyaksha was destroyed and earth protected. As a Tortoise, He supported on His back the sinking Mandara Mountain, which was being used as the churning rod for churning the milk ocean. He saved the elephant who took refuge in Him in the incarnation of Sri Hari. He saved the ascetics known as Balakhilyas of minute size, who prayed to him for rescue from the puddle made by a calf’s hoof, which was like an ocean to them. He also saved Indra who was encompassed by the darkness of the sin as a result of killing Vritra. He freed the celestial women who were held captives by the Asuras. He took the wonderful form of Man-Lion and destroyed the Asura Hiranyakashipu and protected His beloved devotee Prahlada. Born as Vamana to Aditi, He took possession of the earth from Mahabali, through the ruse of begging for a favor. He effaced the kshatriya clan from the earth in the incarnation as Parasurama. As SriRama, He built the bridge across the sea and destroyed the ten-headed Ravana. Though birth less, He will incarnate in the Yadu clan for ridding the earth of her burden of evil men, and will perform deeds that are impossible even for Devas to accomplish. Born as Buddha, he will confound by arguments, the Asuras who have taken to Vedic rites but are unfit for performing them. At the end of Kali Yuga, He will appear as Kalki and destroy evil men who masquerade as rulers. Oh! King! Innumerable are His incarnations and exploits! All that I have recounted here is but an insignificant part of it! To be continued……….
