Swamigal Speaks

<Prev |  Next>

“What is the use of people with no worldly experiences, lecturing about God, Atman, etc?”

Sri Swamiji:

“It is very difficult for Jnanis who have attained such a state to mingle with worldly people. When people who have not yet attained the highest state frequently use terms like God, Moksha, Atma, etc., it falls in the ears of the ‘samsãris’ (worldly people). By frequently listening to these, a desire for these is born in them. Later on, this helps them in seeking out a real Jnani to attain ‘anubhava’ (highest spiritual experience). Thus, only good comes out of these, too.”

“You seem to follow Advaita philosophy. Yet you ask every one to chant
“Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare!
Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare!”
How is this?”

Sri Swamiji:

“In Bhagavat Gita, Bhagavãn says, “Swalpamapi Dharmasya trãyate mahato bhayãt!” That is, if one follows Dharma even to a small extent, it allays big fears. So, Nãmakirtan of the Lord itself would lead to Jivan Mukti.”

“The Shastras speak of five people who are to be regarded as one’s father. Who are they?”

Sri Swamiji:

“The one who has been responsible for the body, the one who gives ‘upadesa’ of the Gayathri Mantra, the one who feeds, the one who imparts education and the one who imparts Jnana These five people are like one’s father.”

“You say that one should attain a proper Guru and obtain ‘upadesa’. If one does not attain a proper Guru, he would not get God’s darshan in this very birth. That is all to it! Is that not so?”

Sri Swamiji:

“It is not so. For physical ailments we seek out a proper physician and receive medical treatment. However, if we go to a quack, it is not only that the disease does not get cured, but also it may create new diseases; Or it may give rise to unwanted problems. Similarly, if one does not resort to a proper Guru and he does ‘upadesa’ of some sadhana or japa without knowing your spiritual maturity, it may lead to several problems.”

“ Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare!
Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare !"
