Chaitanya Mahãprabhu (47)

<Prev |  Next>

The intimate devotees of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu looked upon him as God Himself. But, the world saw him as a great pundit, a devoted Vaishnavaite, erudite scholar and a majestic personality. He was the storehouse of all virtues. He never trespassed the rules laid down by the Shastras. Though he was capable of everything, he did all his wordly and Vedic duties without fail. He encouraged the others also to be likewise. Though he preached Namasankeertana to be the highest sadhana in the Kali age and other karmas (activities) were inferior to it, He never condemned the daily religious chores due to a householder like Tarpana (Annual offerings to ancestors), festivals and pilgrimages. He did not abandon any of these either.

Apart from the times when He was in an emotional state of ecstasy (Bhava) he did not disclose his greatness to anybody. He should respect to devotees who were elder than him. As Mahaprabhu’s fame spread far and wide, there developed some enemies due to jealousy.Some said He was a fake. Some condemned Him. Prabhu kept smiling and did not heed any of this. He did not treat those who condemned Him as enemies. On the other hane He praised them. Only the intimate devotees were allowed to attend the Bhajans Prabhu conducted. Observing that the bhajans took place only after locking the doors of Srivas Pundit’s house, those who came to watch the Bhajan’s condemned it.
