A Story for the Children Once upon a time in a village lived a young boy named Kumaran. He possessed good qualities and was very smart. Even then he was unhappy on account that nobody liked him. He really couldn’t understand the reason behind the attitude of his peers. He wondered, “I have no bad habits and I study well too! Funny that these guys should ignore me and join hands with boys who are not virtuous and studious!” Brooding over his ill luck and pondering over the reason behind this, Kumaran tried to get some sleep but couldn’t. Suddenly out of space he heard a voice calling him. He was terrified to hear a voice in a room where he was actually lying alone! Then he gathered himself and listened to the voice, which he was now convinced was none other than his own conscience. His conscience addressed him – "People who are good natured and are filled with virtues need not necessarily be intelligent. Conversely, people with sharp and astounding intelligence need not necessarily be virtuous! Also it is of no use if a person is both good and intelligent but does not know how to move with others. See for yourself! You are indeed a good boy! Intelligent too! But of what use are these? You argue a lot with others even for petty things. You are so egoistic that you cannot compromise with anybody. While arguing you hurt other people's feelings with your strong words. People around us will feel like talking to us only if they find us cheerful and open-minded. One should not interfere in others business, especially in their personal affairs. Nobody will feel like maintaining a friendly relationship with one who always counters others ideas. One can easily prove oneself to be a good boy or an intelligent boy. But the real challenge lies in behaving in such a way that people call you a “GENTLEMAN”.” The voice of the Conscience stopped. Next morning when Kumaran woke up he turned over a new leaf!
