'Nãma' is God!
God and His Divine Name are no different. The Divine Name is verily God. The instant the Divine Name appears in the mind, the heart is filled with God’s ‘sãnidhya’ (Presence). To fix our thoughts in God there is no way easier than thinking of His Divine Name constantly. While chanting God’s Divine Name loudly our heart floods with ‘prema’ (Divine Love) and we experience divine ecstasy. The sound of the Divine Name wakes up our mind and helps us feel God’s love and experience divine joy. Though performance of mental japa is better than chanting God’s Divine Name loudly, the sweetness and joy born out of the loud chanting of the ‘Nãma’ is an experience non-pareil. When the Bhaktã’s mind mingles in the melody he attains the experience that the Nãma is verily Brahman. God is contained in ‘srishtti’ (creation) and at the same time beyond it (‘srishtti’). The Divine Name denotes such a God. It is verily the omnipresent, limitless, changeless, serene ‘tattva’ that is God who is beyond ‘srishtti’. It is this Universe containing within it all the creatures and things bearing name, form and with ‘chalana’ (movement, changing) that is within the limit of God’s ‘srishtti’. The Divine Name holds everything within ‘IT’; at the same time ‘IT’ signifies God who is unique and beyond any distinctiveness. Such Divine Name is the beginningless source of all ‘srishtti’ and at the same time is ‘srishtti’. God, the absolute, is verily the ‘Nãma’ that is Nameless. The Divine Name releases the ‘jiva’ from bondage. The Divine Name takes him to the highest state of spiritual life. ‘IT’ bestows divine vision (‘divya drishti’) to the blind ‘jiva’ drowned in darkness. The Divine Name of God is capable of bestowing the glorious ‘Viswaroopa darshan’. The Divine Name can lift the ‘jiva’ to the glorious tower of ‘God experience’, which is beyond mental conception. The power of the Divine Name of God cannot be surpassed. The mind that is thought to be undefeatable, drawn by the soft melody of the ‘Nãma’ becomes humble, soft and obedient. By the glory of the Divine Name, the mind itself transforms into God. One who has taken refuge in God’s Divine Name can perform several miracles. He can defeat nature’s ‘shakti’ (power) and can create spiritual awakening in the minds of human beings. The Divine Name can transform the human being into ‘nityãnanda prema swaroopa’ (the ever joyful, very form of Love). ‘Nãma’ can transform an individual – the ignorant ‘jiva’ – into cosmic reality (‘virãt swaroopa). The melody of ‘Nãma’ spreads the glory of ‘prema’ (Love) in the place where ‘Divya Nãma’ bhajan is performed and fills it with purity, peace and joy. ‘Divya Nãma’ (the Divine Name) is absolute. Chanting the ‘Nãma’ is verily dhyana. The ecstasy experienced as a result of this is verily ‘samãdhi’. ‘Divya Nãma’ is verily Love, Light, Power and Joy! ‘Nãma’ can by ‘Itself’, sans any other sãdhana, bestow God’s darshan to a person anywhere. This writer can vouchsafe that the Divine Name itself is enough for one to mingle in the ocean of limitless Love and Joy. No other sãdhana is as easy to follow by all, as God’s Divine Name and at the same time attain God. How true are the words of a Mahan that the one on whose tongue God’s Divine Name resides is verily the one who has been freed from bondage –a Jivan Mukta! Therefore, my dear friends! Be you of any caste, creed, faith or colour – chant the ‘Nãma’ of God and experience that sweet relationship. Your soul, drowned in the nectar of ‘Nãma’ would not only be purified but is also certain that it would shine with the omniscient and omnipresent God’s Divine Light and Love. The practice of chanting the Divine Name constantly makes the unruly mind a slave to God’s Divine Will and strength. When one chants the Divine Name sincerely with faith and concentration, his face begins to shine with an extraordinary lustre. His mind earns discernment (‘viveka’) and the heart fills with love. This occurs, as ‘sattva guna’ (the quality of goodness) rises up in the Sãdhak’s mind. If he keeps chanting the Divine Name with the same enthusiasm, he begins to view this whole Universe as the very form of God. He who has become one with God sees only God’s darshan everywhere. In reality, “Nãma” (the Divine Name) is verily God.
