Sri Swamiji     The Master's Mantra
    Govardhanadhara Moorthey... (Sri Swamiji's Song)
    The Paduka

The Master's Mantra

Sri Swamiji -

  • There is no need for Mahatmãs to look at us or speak to us. It is enough even if we just stand in their ‘sannidhi’ (Presence). All auspiciousness is acquired by their very darshan.

Govardhanadhara Moorthey...

Sri Swamiji's Song:

Rag: Bheemplas Tãl: Ãdi

Pallavi

Govardhanadhara Moorthey
Ãnandavardhanakara keerthey

Anupallavi

Surabhyãbhishikta
Surarãjãbhimãnhara
Sujanãbhivandita
Abhinavajaladharasundara

Charanam

Vinitajanavinuta Govinda
Vishãla Vakshasthala vanamãlãdhara
Vyatyastapãda Brindavanesha
Lalita Muralidhara Lavanyaroopa

The Translation:

Oh! One bearing the form of Govardhanadhara! –
Singing whose praises enhances Bliss!

Oh! One bathed by the milk of Surabhi! One who curbed the Pride of the Lord of Devas!
Oh! One whom noble souls prostrate! One lovely like the newly formed cloud!

Oh! Govinda! Worshipped by humble devotees!
Oh! One with broad chest adorned with garland of wild flowers!
Oh! One holding the Feet crossed! The King of Brindavan!
Oh! Graceful Muralidhara of beautiful form!

The Paduka

Sri Swamigal's Paduka

Sriman Nigamantha Desikan, a great Vaishnava Saint lived from mid-thirteenth to mid-fourteenth century- 1268-1369. Of the innumerable 'Granthas' (texts) written by Him the highly revered and considered as the most extraordinary piece is His "Paduka Sahasram" - a thousand verses on the 'Paduka' of Lord Ranganatha. The Saint has in all composed 1008 verses, the last eight apologizing in all humility for daring to compose these 1000 verses on the Paduka!

Sri Desikan's contemporary Sri Appayya Dikshitar had written a commentary on the "Paduka Sahasram" but unfortunately it has been lost.

Dãtum arhasi tadã mama shrutou
   Devi! Rangapatiratna Pãduke! |
Vihvalasya bhavadiiya shinjjitam
Swãdu karnna rasanã rasãyanam || (396)

Oh! Pãduke!
  at the final hour
  my senses would be bewildered!
the jiva would attain to Bhagavãn
if only he would think of HIM!
  (Then)
  Should Your sweet sound
  fall into my ears
  And
  I (should) remember HIM!

“ Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare!
