The Master's Mantra
Sri Swamiji -
Smoke is in tandem with fire. So, too, ‘sukha’ (joy) goes hand in glove with Dharma. They co-exist. And what is the Dharma of a sadhak?
The swa-dharma of a sadhak is to ever and anon keep the mind in control!
Rãjãdi Rãja gambhira...

The Paduka
Sriman Nigamantha Desikan, a great Vaishnava Saint lived from
mid-thirteenth to mid-fourteenth century- 1268-1369. Of the innumerable
'Granthas' (texts) written by Him
the highly revered and considered as the most extraordinary piece is His
"Paduka Sahasram" - a thousand verses on the 'Paduka' of Lord Ranganatha.
The Saint has in all composed 1008 verses, the last eight apologizing
in all humility for daring to compose these 1000 verses on the Paduka!
Sri Desikan's contemporary Sri Appayya Dikshitar had written a
commentary on the "Paduka Sahasram" but unfortunately it has been lost.

Oh! Paduke!
Performing Your Coronation
Strictly in adherence to Atharva regulations
Great Muniis such as Vasishtta
Were astounded to witness
A wonderful assembly
Which grandeur rose from
Your Presence
That they found
The ‘Raghu kula’* reduced to ‘laghu kula’**!
(*‘Raghu-kula’ – Royalty that had great Ones in its line and wherein Sri Rama was born
**‘laghu’ – insignificant/trivial)
