“Recently I happened to see Suka Jayanti mentioned in a calendar. Is this the Jayanti of Vyasa’s son Suka?”

Sri Swamiji:

“There was a Siddha Purusha by name Suka. Somebody has given him this name. It is his Jayanti that is mentioned in the calendar. The ‘Suka nãdi jothidam’ (a style of astrology) that is spoken of might be one formulated by this Siddha Purusha.”

“In ‘upanyãs’ you say, ‘failure of performance of ‘pitru kãrya’ (religious rites performed for the dead ancestors) properly is the reason for mental diseases found in some families.’ In the Bhagavad Gita, Bhagavãn Sri Krishna says that those who worship the ‘pitrus’ (the dead ancestors) attain to ‘pitru loka’. Does this mean that those who perform ‘pitru kãrya’ properly would attain to ‘pitru loka’?”

Sri Swamiji:

“It is the duty of each and every one to perform ‘pitru kãrya’ at the assigned time. It is only because this is not adhered to properly that mental afflictions are found in such families. But, one should not worship the ‘pitrus’ (ancestors) as one does Bhagavãn. Only those who worship so attain to ‘pitru lokãs’.”

“You perform ‘Bhagavan Nãma Prachãra’ (preaching the glory of the Divine Name of the Lord) in villages. Is such ‘prachãra’ a necessity?”

Sri Swamiji:

“The world would not know about the Avatar of Rama had not Valimiki written Srimad Ramayana. Likewise, we would know nothing about the Lord’s Avatar as Krishna if Veda Vyasa had not written Srimad Bhãgavatam. Propaganda is absolutely necessary if any message has to reach the people. This applies to Bhagavan Nãma also.”

“In the present times ‘adharma’ (unrighteousness) and wickedness seem to be on the increase in the world. What is the reason for this?”

Sri Swamiji:

“Death of the body is not the death of the person. His ‘mano-maya sariira’ (subtle body) exists even after that. All his ‘vãsanãs’ remain in it. While one has to reduce the ‘vãsanãs’ in his subsequent birth, today’s circumstances are only supportive in increasing them. It is only because he keeps earning more and more such negative ‘vãsanãs’ that the world is moving from bad to worse; is not the world made up of such people!”
