Sri Swamiji     The Master's Mantra
Orumugamãnadu manadu Sri Hare... (Sri Swamiji's Song)
    The Paduka

The Master's Mantra

Sri Swamiji -

  • Divinity (‘deiviigam’) is not something to be earned. Removal of all that have been absorbed by the mind, birth after birth, is only Divinity.

Orumugamãnadu manadu Sri Hare...

Rãga: Mohanam Tal: Adi

Sri Swamiji's Song:

Pallavi

Orumugamãnadu manadu Sri Hare – Nin
Thirumuga mandalamadil (Oru)

Anupallavi

Paripakkuvam illãda yelliyenukkum
Hari Guru krupaiyãl (Oru)

Charanam

Chandra samãna seetalla vadanamum
Chanchala nayanamum champaka nãsiyum
Konji konjip pesum sundara adaramum
Nenjai kollai kondadanãl (Oru)

The Translation:

Oh! Sri Hare!
one-point did the mind turn
to Thy Divine face!

Even to the immature humble self
by the Grace of Guru Hari!
(one-point did the mind turn, to Thy Divine face!)

As the
Moon-like cool face
restless eyes, ‘champaka’ (flower)-like nose
and
beautiful lips uttering sweet-talks
captured the heart!
(one-point did the mind turn, to Thy Divine face!)

The Paduka

Sri Swamigal's Paduka

Sriman Nigamantha Desikan, a great Vaishnava Saint lived from mid-thirteenth to mid-fourteenth century- 1268-1369. Of the innumerable 'Granthas' (texts) written by Him the highly revered and considered as the most extraordinary piece is His "Paduka Sahasram" - a thousand verses on the 'Paduka' of Lord Ranganatha. The Saint has in all composed 1008 verses, the last eight apologizing in all humility for daring to compose these 1000 verses on the Paduka!

Sri Desikan's contemporary Sri Appayya Dikshitar had written a commentary on the "Paduka Sahasram" but unfortunately it has been lost.

Nidhimiva nirapãyam tvãm anãdrutya mohãd
Ahamiva mama dosham bhãvayan shudramartham |
Mayi sati karunãyãh poornnapãtre tvayã kim
Paramupagamaniiyah Pãduke! Ranganãthah! || (308) Oh! Paduke!
Ignoring You, the greatest treasure, my mind wanders about on trivial paths
seeking artha, kãma and the like. The omniscient Lord, too, is indifferent
towards me considering only my faults. My deficiency is reason enough to
make me the right recipient for His Grace. Why then do You, Oh! Paduke!
take Him to another? It is You who should turn Him towards me. Parisaramupayãtã Paduke! Pasya mãtah
  Karannavilayakhedãt kãndishiike viveke |
Purushamupanayantii pundariikãkshamagre
Punarudaranivãsakleshavicchedanam nah || (310) Oh! Paduke!
Whence the soul leaves the body the senses would become ineffective and acumen would fail. At that time, Oh! Paduke! You should protect me by bringing the Lotus eyed Lord to me so that I do not have to suffer another birth.
