Sri Swamiji     The Master's Mantra
Jaya jaya mangalam Sri Rangey! Jaya mangalam Sri Godey! (Sri Swamiji's Song)
    The Paduka

The Master's Mantra

Sri Swamiji -

  • Control of the tongue does not mean reducing food intake alone. Avoiding talking all matters other than Bhagavãn is truly the control of the tongue.

  • Sadhus, though possessing innumerable merits may have one or two ‘doshãs’ (faults) in them. But, they think only of these and deem themselves to be low! The wicked, however, have innumerable faults and just one or two merits. But, they think only of these one or two merits always and deem themselves to be great!

Jaya jaya mangalam Sri Rangey!
Jaya mangalam Sri Godey!

Raga: Surutti
Tala: Ãdi

Sri Swamiji's Song:

Jaya jaya mangalam Sri Rangey!
jaya mangalam Sri Godey!

Vishnujanapriya Sri Rangey!
Vishnuchitta sutey Sri Godey!

Komalabimbãdara Sri Rangey!
Kokila Bhashini Sri Godey!

Divyasoori sevita Sri Rangey!
Divyãbharaney Sri Godey!

Muralidharanuta Sri Rangey!
Mãlasamarpitey Sri Godey!

The Translation:

Victory unto Sri Ranga!
Victory unto Sri Goda!

Ranga! The beloved of Vaishnavas!
Goda! The daughter of Sri Vishnuchitta!

Ranga! One with tender lips resembling the bimba fruit!
Goda! One with speech that is as mellifluous as that of a cuckoo!

Ranga! The one worshipped by DivyaSooris!
Goda! One adorned with divine ornaments!

Ranga! The one prostrated by Muralidhara!
Goda! The one who offered garland to the Lord!

The Paduka

Sri Swamigal's Paduka

Sriman Nigamantha Desikan, a great Vaishnava Saint lived from mid-thirteenth to mid-fourteenth century- 1268-1369. Of the innumerable 'Granthas' (texts) written by Him the highly revered and considered as the most extraordinary piece is His "Paduka Sahasram" - a thousand verses on the 'Paduka' of Lord Ranganatha. The Saint has in all composed 1008 verses, the last eight apologizing in all humility for daring to compose these 1000 verses on the Paduka!

Sri Desikan's contemporary Sri Appayya Dikshitar had written a commentary on the "Paduka Sahasram" but unfortunately it has been lost.

Rãmapãdasahadharmachãrinniim Pãduke! Nikhilapãtakacchidam |
Tvãmasheshajagatãmadhiishwariim bhãvayãmi bharatãdhidevatãm || (79)

Oh! Pãduke!
I meditate on Thee!
The righteous wife attached to Rama’s feet!
  The destroyer of all sins
The Queen of all worlds like the
Goddess Mahalakshmi who blesses those who seek her
  And
  The goddess of Bharata!

“ Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare!
