Sri Swamiji     The Master's Mantra
Mangalam kuru dayaya - Madhuri sakhi..(Sri Swamiji's Song)
    The Paduka

The Master's Mantra

Sri Swamiji -

  • Just as citizens should remain obedient to a king; a wife to her husband; children to their parents, ‘sishyas’ (disciples) should remain bound to their Guru. This is the rule!

Mangalam kuru dayaya - Madhuri sakhi..

Raga: Bhairavi
Tala: Ãdi

Sri Swamiji's Song:

Mangalam kuru dayaya - Madhuri sakhi
Tvameva mama sharanam
Premika varada hrudaya nivãsini
Prema bhakta jana moha samhãrini
Brindãvana vãsini Moksha pradãyini
Briguvãra poojana santhoshini

Madhyama - Kãlam

Rasa mandala nayaki! Mama rãga -dvesha vinãshini
Muralidharasya kinchit Bhaktyai kãrini poorani jaganmohini

The Translation:

Bestow auspiciousness mercifully - Oh! Madhuri sakhi!
You are my only refuge!
Oh! the dweller of the heart of Premika Varada!
Destroyer of infatuation of your loving devotees!
Dweller of Vrindãvana ! Bestower of Liberation!
Oh! One pleased with worship on Fridays!

Heroine of the Rasa-mandala! (the circular formation of gopis’ dance with Krishna )
Annihilator of my likes and dislikes!
Sole cause for the little devotion of Muralidhara!
Oh! the Perfect One!
The enchantress of the world!

The Paduka

Sri Swamigal's Paduka

Sriman Nigamantha Desikan, a great Vaishnava Saint lived from mid-thirteenth to mid-fourteenth century- 1268-1369. Of the innumerable 'Granthas' (texts) written by Him the highly revered and considered as the most extraordinary piece is His "Paduka Sahasram" - a thousand verses on the 'Paduka' of Lord Ranganatha. The Saint has in all composed 1008 verses, the last eight apologizing in all humility for daring to compose these 1000 verses on the Paduka!

Sri Desikan's contemporary Sri Appayya Dikshitar had written a commentary on the "Paduka Sahasram" but unfortunately it has been lost.

Shirasi vinihitãyãm bhaktinamre bhavatyãm
Sapadi tanubhrutastãmunnatim prãpnuvanti |
Madhuripupadarakshe yadvashenaiva teshãm
Anitarasulabham tadh dhãma hastãpacheyam || (53)

The sloka in Sanskrit

Oh! Pãduka of the Lord!
Though the Bhaktas who wear You on their heads appear
To be small with their heads bent,
The abode of the Lord, not easily accessible for others,
Comes within their hand’s reach!

“ Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare!
Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare !"
