Swamigal Speaks

<Prev |  Next>

“A person said to me that even gravitational force has been spoken of in our ‘Puraanaas’. What is the basis for this?”

Sri Swamiji:

“It has been said in the ‘Puraanaas’ that “Sankharshana”, an ‘amsa’ (part) of Bhagavaan, stays below the earth and bears her (the earth). ‘Aakarshanam’, in the word “Sankarshanam”, means ‘pull’. From this we understand that the earth has gravitational force! Don’t we? That person must have meant only this.”

“Daily most of part of my time is spent in puja, kirtan and parayana. I desire to lessen these and spend more time in sadhana!”

Sri Swamiji:

“Puja, kirtan and parayana are verily saadhana only! Is there a saadhana apart from these? From your words it is seen that you do not think of these as saadhana. This is a grave mistake.”

“Who are the persons who have understood the subtlety of Bhaagavata dharma?”

Sri Swamiji:

“Yamadharmaraja speaks of this matter in Ajamilla charitra, in Srimad Bhaagavatam.

---- Twelve people viz. Brahma, Narada, Parameswara, Sanatkumara, Kapila, Manu, Prahlaada, Janaka, Bheeshma, Bali, Vyaasa and Yamadharmaraja have comprehended the subtlety of Bhaagavata dharma very well.”

“Is not the right to learn and chant the Vedas resting with only the Brahmins based on self-centeredness?”

Sri Swamiji:

“The right to learn and chant the Vedas resting with only the Brahmins is certainly not based on self-centeredness! The ladies born in Brahmin caste are not given the right to learn and chant the Vedas. From this it is clear that such regulations have been underlined only to safeguard the ‘swara’ (accent/intonation) of the Vedas.”
