Script from Scriptures (35)

The sons of Rishabha Yogi - Kavi, Hari, Anthariksha, Prabuddha, Pippalãyana, Ãvirhotra, Drumila, Chamsa and Karabhãjana (also called as Navayogis) - who were great devotees, at the sacrifice conducted by the King Nimi -

Antariksha continued, “The ‘jiva’ enjoys the pleasures of the world using his senses (‘indriyas’)as well as his mind and is bound since he considers his body to be the Self (‘Atma’). Due to this attachment, the jiva is prompted to act as per his lateral impressions (‘Karma vãsanas’). Thus subject to joy and sorrow according to the fruits of his actions, the jiva wanders in this transmigratory existence assuming body after body. Having lost his freedom and subject to many painful events as a result of his actions, the jiva passes through repeated cycles of birth and death till the dissolution of the world(‘pralaya’).

When the dissolution is imminent, there will be a hundred years of terrific drought without a single drop of rain and the sun will scorch the world with its intense heat. The fire emitted from the mouth of AdhiShesha will be augmented by the winds and will burn all the worlds right from the nether world (‘pãtãla’). Following the heat there will be a heavy downpour of rain for hundred years. At that point, the earth, wind etc which constitutes the five elements and the ‘tatvãs’ including Ahankara will dissolve into the ‘Prakriti’ which forms the basis of creation. This prakriti is indeed Lord’s Maya!”
