The Master's Mantra
Sri Swamiji -
Just as a good father thinks of somehow making his child study even if he has to use various means - petting, pleading, beating or threatening, so too does Bhagavãn think of bestowing Jnãna on His true Bhakta even if it be through harsh treatment.

The Translation:
Pallavi
I prostrate unto
the Holy Paaduka of my Sadguru - always!
Charanams
I prostrate unto the Holy Paaduka!
Of Chandrasekaa Yati (ascetic), who belongs to the lineage of Sankara!
Of the Guru who captivates the hearts of all!
Of the seer who destroys the heat of samsaara!
that offers Blessings and refuge to one and all!
I wish not
For a dip in the holy rivers!
A pilgrimage to Holy Places!
For Self-Realisation!
(But)
Wish for
Only proximity to the Holy Paaduka!
I prostrate unto that Paaduka!
That reminds one of Bharata, the worshipper of Rama!
That is forever etched in the memory of Sri(dhara) Muralidhara!

The Paduka
Sriman Nigamantha Desikan, a great Vaishnava Saint lived from
mid-thirteenth to mid-fourteenth century- 1268-1369. Of the innumerable
'Granthas' (texts) written by Him
the highly revered and considered as the most extraordinary piece is His
"Paduka Sahasram" - a thousand verses on the 'Paduka' of Lord Ranganatha.
The Saint has in all composed 1008 verses, the last eight apologizing
in all humility for daring to compose these 1000 verses on the Paduka!
Sri Desikan's contemporary Sri Appayya Dikshitar had written a
commentary on the "Paduka Sahasram" but unfortunately it has been lost.
Bhãsa svayã bhagavato Manipãdarakshe!
Muktãnvita maratakopalapaddhatiste
Nityãvagãhana saham sakalasya jantoh
Gangãnvitam janayatiiva samudramanyam || (563)
The sloka in Sanskrit
Oh! Manipãduka!
You are verily the Ocean
with the beauty of your green gems
generating a likeness to the Ocean
and
the lines of beads
reminding the gush of the white Ganga
unlike the Ocean water*
You can indeed be worshipped daily!
*the usual ocean water can be resorted to only on Full and New Moon days.
