A Story for the Children

<Prev |  Next>

Once upon a time, there lived a merchant in the state of Andhra Pradesh. His business was to lend money on a reasonable interest. He was an ardent devotee of Lord Thirupati Srinivasa. Whenever he found time he would go to Thirumala to have a darshan of Lord Srinivasa.

While lending money, he would not take any signed note from the person to whom he lent money. Instead he would just say, “With Lord Srinivasa as the sole witness I lend this amount of money to you.” In the same way when he got the money back from some body he would take it back saying, “With Lord Srinivasa as the witness I have got back the amount of money lent to you.” His trade was thus thriving well.

Once a man who took loan from him did not return the money even after repeated requests. So the merchant took the case to the court. The judge, who had taken up the case, asked him for the witness who was present during the transaction. The trader answered that Lord Srinivasa was the witness.

The judge was taken aback! He asked whether the Lord would come to give the evidence. To everybody’s surprise, the Lord appeared and told that the transaction had taken place as the merchant had informed and that He was the witness.

Including the Judge everybody was surprised and naturally the judgement was in favour of the merchant. So if we trust God wholeheartedly, the Lord will not desert us.
