Chaitanya Mahãprabhu (24)

The devotees looked at Mahaprabhu with surprise and awe. But he was shining brilliantly with a divine radiance that none was able to gaze at him continuously for more than a few minutes. His whole body appeared like a dazzling ball of flame to them. It seemed as if they were engulfed by flames of fire that were emitting sparks and Prabhu’s nails looked like stars. Though His form was blinding their vision, their hearts could not resist the temptation to look at Mahaprabhu's glorious form. For a long time they were thus seated in silence like statues. They did not even feel like breathing, lest it should disturb the prevailing silence. Breaking the silence, Prabhu spoke majestically -“Devotees! I am going to fulfill all your desires today. Perform ‘abhisheka’ (sacred bath) to me today as per injunctions.”

The devotees were elated on hearing those words from Mahaprabhu. Srivas pandits’ joy knew no bounds. He felt as happy and overwhelmed with emotions as a poor Brahmin would feel when a monarch enters his dilapidated hut being pleased and bound by the poor man’s love. He himself took a pot and ran to the Ganges. But he swooned half way through. Many ran behind with pots in their hands. Many of them brought water from the Ganges. The devotees seated Mahaprabhu on a beautiful dais and smeared scented oils on his body. They then bathed him with the Ganges water made fragrant with scents and powders. Advaitacharya and a gem of a teacher, Prabruti pandit chanted the mantras for bathing. All those present bathed Prabhu as they wished and enjoyed watching the divine event. Later, the devotees wiped Mahaprabhu’s body with the the best cloth as per their heart's desire. Srivas Pandit, who had regained consciousness, ran to bring all the best silk garments from his house and dressed Prabhu in them and seated him in a throne. They then smeared his body with sandal paste mixed with saffron, camphor and musk. They garlanded him with beautifully strung garlands. Prabhu’s neck and lotus feet were filled with the garlands offered by the devotees.
