‘Ãchãrya Nishta’
One of the disciples of Sri Ãllavandãr, Thirukottiyur Nambi, was once immersed in deep meditation. At that moment, Sri Ramanuja arrived there. Thirukottiyur Nambi too concluded his meditation and got up. Sri Ramanuja asked Thirukottiyur Nambi, “Swami! May I know the form upon which you were meditating for such a long time?” Thirukottiyur Nambi replied, “When Sri Ãllavandãr takes his bath in the river, the way he bends his back is beautiful! That is the form upon which I meditate! I chant only the Divine Name of Yamunaithuraivan (Ãllavandãr).” It was Thirukottiyur Nambi who had given the Upadesa of Dhruvashtãkshara Mantra to Sri Ramanuja. Inspite of that, he himself loved the Name of his Guru more than the Narayana Mantra and was delighted to meditate on the form of his Guru rather than that of Narayana. Many such Mahans have considered their Guru as verily God and have surrendered totally unto them.
