“What is the reason for ‘conversions’ and spread of atheism in spite of the presence of innumerable Sadhus in our Religion?” Sri Swamiji: “Today, many a person has begun to adorn the garb of ‘Sadhu’ in our Religion. Their number is on the high. But, they do not possess ‘Ãtma bala’ (Spiritual strength). Moreover, many Sadhus of our Religion are more concerned in propagating themselves than in propagating our Dharma. This is also another reason for such untoward happenings.” “ I lose peace of mind when I see someone who is better blessed than I am, in any matter!” Sri Swamiji: “In Bhãgavatam when ‘initiating’ Dhruva, Narada advises, “We experience peace of mind when we do not envy another who is better than us in some way but when we feel happy as if that is being enjoyed by us, when we do not show any dislike or criticize one who is not as blessed as we are but are compassionate towards him and when we nurture friendship with one who is our equal in all respects.” “What is the reason for the effects (‘phala’) of ‘pãpa’ and ‘punya’ performed in this ‘janma’ not being experienced in this janma itself?” Sri Swamiji: “Since we have not yet lived through the effects of the karmas earned through many janmas, the effects of the karmas performed in this janma have not yet come upon us (in this janma itself). Only after living through the left over karma phalas, will the present karma phalas be experienced.” “You say that Tapas is required to foster the Vedas, to propagate Nãma (the Name of the Lord) to propagate Bhakti and that drawing up of ‘Schemes’ alone will not suffice. There are ever so many people who carry out innumerable work successfully. Do all of them possess tapas?” Sri Swamiji: “Any work along the lines of ‘prakriti’ (in tune with the world) does not need Tapas; schemes alone will suffice. But, Tapas is certainly required to carry out works that are against ‘prakriti’. Only through Tapas can such works be successfully accomplished.”
