Script from Scriptures (17) Bhikshu Gita - Srimad Bhãgavatam 11th Canto 23rd Chapter
The Brahmin said,
"Thus, knowledge (Jnãna) can be attained only by controlling the mind. Charity, adherence to the rules prescribed by the shastras, observance of the five Niyamas (external purity, contentment, austerity, study of the scriptures and chanting the Divine Name and surrender to God) and five Yamas (non-violence, truthfulness, continence, etc),learning the Shastras and noble vows- all find their culmination in control of the mind. What is there to be accomplished by charity and other duties for one who has controlled his mind and won over the vices like lust and anger? For such a man, there is no benefit from activities like charity! All other senses are also under the control of mind. Thus the mind is most powerful and even the yogis are afraid of the mind. Such a mind becomes the Deva(Master)(because it is so difficult to control)! And the one who is able to bring it under control is indeed adorable and can be called as Lord of Lords(Devadi Deva)! " "Foolish is he who is impulsive and hence is unable to conquer the real enemy which is the mind. Such deluded persons make friends, enemies, son, wife etc of men and fight unnecessarily!" To be continued……….
