    Govindapuram enru selveno...(Sri Swamiji's Song)
    The Paduka

Ucchishtam
Leaf - 17

The 'Ucchishtam' of the Guru is His Words/Upadesas!

Sri Swamiji -

  • Bhagavãn knows how, through whom and when a work has to be done. We should learn to live happily, placing all the burdens on His Holy Feet.

  • A person rendering services as desired by the Mahãtma, with bhakti and ‘shraddha’, need not grieve for not performing japa or dhyana. The devoted service that he renders encompasses all these!

Govindapuram enru selveno! ...

Raga: Revati

Sri Swamiji's Song:

Pallavi

The Translation:

Pallavi

When would I visit Govindapuram!
Oh! When would I visit Govindapuram! (Govindapuram)

Charanams

To have Darshan of

The Lotus Feet of
The ascetic Bodendra, bestower of all in Kali Yuga!
(Seated) on the banks of Cauvery, adorning the ochre robe! (Govindapuram)

The One who offered the Siddhãnta
(That) Tãraka Nãma (Rama Nãma) is the protecting Mantra
(Which) will fuse you with ‘Ãtma Rama’! (Govindapuram)

The Guru who took Avatar
To occupy the Kãmakoti peeta, as the very form of Compassion!
One unknown even to the Vedas and the very essence of Vedanta! (Govindapuram)

The foremost disciple of Ãtma Bodendrãl
Enjoyer of Advaita, wearing a wonderful form
The Guru (who is) ever immersed in Rama Nãma! (Govindapuram)

To bow down to the Holy Feet of the Guru
Who instructed
Marudãnallur Sadguru Swamigal
To
Propagate Bhãgavata dharma! (Govindapuram)

Oh! Gurunãtha! Who
Stole the ‘chitta’ of Muraliidhara!
And
Enjoined it in ‘Chittswaroopa’! (Govindapuram)

The Paduka

Sri Swamigal's Paduka

Sriman Nigamantha Desikan, a great Vaishnava Saint lived from mid-thirteenth to mid-fourteenth century- 1268-1369. Of the innumerable 'Granthas' (texts) written by Him the highly revered and considered as the most extraordinary piece is His "Paduka Sahasram" - a thousand verses on the 'Paduka' of Lord Ranganatha. The Saint has in all composed 1008 verses, the last eight apologizing in all humility for daring to compose these 1000 verses on the Paduka!

Sri Desikan's contemporary Sri Appayya Dikshitar had written a commentary on the "Paduka Sahasram" but unfortunately it has been lost.

Oh! Pãduka!
I meditate on thee as verily
The dharmic wife of Rama’s Feet!
The annihilator of all sins!
The Queen of all worlds!
The goddess of Bharata!

Oh! Pãduka!
This world enjoys the best rule
Because of You!
But,
To avoid ‘dosha’ (stigma) of
A lady ruler
Perumal’s Name is prefixed to Your’s
And thus,
You are referred to as
‘Ranga Nãtha’ Pãduka!

“ Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare!
Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare !"
