Ucchishtam
Leaf - 27
The 'Ucchishtam' of the Guru
is His Words/Upadesas!
Sri Swamiji -
Just as a good father thinks of somehow making his child study even if he has to use various means - petting, pleading, beating or threatening, so too does Bhagavãn think of bestowing Jnãna on His true Bhakta even if it be through harsh treatment.

Sri Swamiji's Song:
Pallavi
Radhe tvam mama swamini-nanu
raskikeshamapi na gannayãmi
Charanams
Anrutam kadãpi tvam na hi vadasi
asurãnapi tvam naiva samharasi
(Radhe tvam mama swamini)
Kapatavachanaihi na tvam chalayasi
gopijãra iva mãm na tyajasi
(Radhe tvam mama swamini)

The Translation:
Pallavi
Oh Radha! You are my Guru!
Indeed I would not even count upon Krishna
(The Lord of connoisseurs)
As my master!
Charanams
Oh Radha! You never speak untrue words (like Krishna) !
Neither do you kill asuras (who are wicked by nature)!
You do not cheat (others) with deceitful words (as Krishna does)!
Never do you abandon me as the paramour of gopis does!
Alas! Like me you too have been deceived by Hari!
Yet, Muralidhara is the only refuge for both of us !

The Paduka
Sriman Nigamantha Desikan, a great Vaishnava Saint lived from
mid-thirteenth to mid-fourteenth century- 1268-1369. Of the innumerable
'Granthas' (texts) written by Him
the highly revered and considered as the most extraordinary piece is His
"Paduka Sahasram" - a thousand verses on the 'Paduka' of Lord Ranganatha.
The Saint has in all composed 1008 verses, the last eight apologizing
in all humility for daring to compose these 1000 verses on the Paduka!
Sri Desikan's contemporary Sri Appayya Dikshitar had written a
commentary on the "Paduka Sahasram" but unfortunately it has been lost.

Oh! Pãduka!
when this ‘Ãtma’ leaves the body
ineffective become the senses
And
One’s acumen fails
May You help me
at this instance
bringing unto me, the Lord
with the lotus eyes (Pundariikãksha)
the remover of sorrows
so that
I do not suffer a rebirth.

Oh! Pãduke!
Grace me
to envision
the Lord
led by YOU
walking on the sands of Cauvery
along with
Sridevi-Bhoomadevi
and is worshipped
only by
Nityasooriis and
the meritorious.
