Unto that GURU I prostrate!
Whose love changes not even when those who belong to Him sin!

Uddhava and Krishna

Uddhava was Lord Krishna’s minister when the latter ruled Dwãraka. Uddhava was the direct disciple of Brahaspati. He was an adept in all the Shastras. His devotion for Krishna was unparalleled. He was always with Bhagavãn. He was ever steeped in Krishna dhyana. He had no liking for anything but Krishna Charana (the Lotus Feet of Krishna). It will not be a bluff to say that living with Krishna always and thinking only of Krishna, he had become verily the form of Krishna!

Once, Uddhava was taking a walk on the Royal lanes of Dwãraka. He saw a young girl whose beauty was beyond all imaginations. One whose eyes did not look at anyone other than Bhagavãn was uncontrollably attracted to the beauty of this girl. He kept looking at her. The girl began to walk ahead slowly. Uddhava, who had lost himself in her beauty followed her as if bound by some ‘Mantra’. His conscience warned him what he was doing was wrong. There was a great debate in his mind.

He felt very sad and hurt as he thought to himself, “Till date I have never felt attracted to anyone or anything other than Bhagavãn. I have never even thought of anything else. The eyes that enjoyed seeing only Bhagavãn, today feel fascinated by a girl!” He stopped for moment feeling that it was wrong to follow her. But, even against his wishes, his legs moved quickly towards the direction that the girl moved. Uddhava felt at a loss. He did not know what to do. That girl slowly entered a house. Uddhava felt that it was not right to follow her beyond this. Though the intellect advised him so, the mind yearned to see her. He opened the door and entered the house. Wonder of wonders! Who but Lord Krishna stood there!

Uddhava heaved a sigh of relief as he realized that the girl who had fascinated him so much was none other than Sri Krishna! Bhagavãn who understood the feelings of Uddhava said smilingly, “Uddhava! Do you not have confidence in the one-pointed bhakti that you possess for ME? If you feel fascinated by any form can it be anything other than ME?”

It is certain that the hearts and minds of Sadhus who have totally surrendered themselves to Bhagavãn will not even by mistake rest in anything else other than Bhagavãn.
