The 'Ucchishtam' of the Guru
is His Words/Upadesas!
Sri Swamiji -
All grains and all vegetables do not grow in all the soils of the earth. Different types of grains and vegetables grow in different types of soils. Similarly, though there are innumerable countries in the world Mahans grow (are born) only in Bharata Desa (India)!
Even those who had been doing Bhakti for attaining Bhagavat darshan at some point of time, due to delusion, begin to strive for position, status, wealth and fame. But, there are some who do bhakti (right from the beginning) only to attain these!

The Paduka
Sriman Nigamantha Desikan, a great Vaishnava Saint lived from
mid-thirteenth to mid-fourteenth century- 1268-1369. Of the innumerable
'Granthas' (texts) written by Him
the highly revered and considered as the most extraordinary piece is His
"Paduka Sahasram" - a thousand verses on the 'Paduka' of Lord Ranganatha.
The Saint has in all composed 1008 verses, the last eight apologizing
in all humility for daring to compose these 1000 verses on the Paduka!
Sri Desikan's contemporary Sri Appayya Dikshitar had written a
commentary on the "Paduka Sahasram" but unfortunately it has been lost.

Oh Pãduka!
You help the Lord
in crisis
just as You help ordinary souls!
Tender are the Feet of the Lord
that redden
even with
the touch of
the tender palm of Mahalakshmi!
how then could the Lord
dance on the hot and rough hood of
Kaliya, the serpent?
it was verily
due to the help You, Oh! Pãduka!
rendered!

Oh! Pãduke!
Sad were You,
in
ruling the kingdom!
Joyful were You,
in
rejoining the Lotus Feet of Sri Rama!
the sportive walk that You took again
with a great eclat
drowned the kingdom’s
excitement!
Separation from the Lord
is verily sorrow
and
proximity to the Lord
verily Joy
for the Ãzhwãr!
