Unto that GURU I prostrate!
“At present there is a perpetual threat of a war in the border of our Country. Won’t Bharata Desa be affected by this?” Sri Swamiji: “In 1962 Indo-China war took place. At that time Ãndavan Pitchai, a great devotee of Lord Muruga who lived in Chennai (Tamizh Nadu, S.India) composed a ‘stotra’ - ‘Shanmukha Raksha Bandhanam’ - on Lord Muruga for the Nation’s victory in the war. Similarly, in 1965 when Indo-Pakistan war began, Singapparãja, who led the Indian army approached Kanchi Sri Maha Periyava for His Blessings. Sri Maha Periyava instructed him to meet with Ãndavan Pitchai. So, Singapparãja had darshan of Ãdvan Pitchai and prayed to Her for the victory of the Indian army in the war. At this time Ãndavan Pitchai had a wonderful vision. In it She saw Ambãl moving in a golden chariot drawn by devas and protecting our border! She immediately wrote a ‘stotra’ ‘Kãli Kavacham’. ‘Kãli Kavacham’ was printed in tens of thousands and distributed to all. In ‘Sharanãgatam’, a monthly published by Sri Yogiramsuratkumar ashram, Justice Sri Arunãchalam has mentioned an important event regarding Sri Yogiramsuratkumar. One day in 1999 when Kargil war was going on it rained very heavily in Tiruvannamalai. Sri Yogiramsuratkumar asked Sri Arunãchalam, “Is this North-east monsoon or South-west monsoon?” Sri Arunãchalam said, “In today’s morning paper it is mentioned that this is North-east monsoon. You usually read the newspaper completely. In today’s issue there are articles of Kanchi Sri Paramãchãryãl whom you like very much and also about Sri Rajaji (Great Indian political leader of the past). Have you not read them?” Sri Yogiramsuratkumar replied, “Where was the time for this beggar to read the newspaper? This beggar was busy in Kargil!” All the Mahans who incarnated in our Bharata Desa have always treated love for the Nation and Love of God as one and the same. Our Mahans have at one time laboured for the freedom of our Country. It is only the Grace of Mahans that is always protecting our Country.” “Generally a Siva temple and a Vishnu temple are found in a Holy Place (Kshetra). Though Tiruvaiyãru (Tamizh Nadu, S.India) is a great Kshetra not a single Vishnu temple is to be found there!” Sri Swamiji: “In this Kshetra, Dharmavardhini - the consort of Lord Siva - has Vishnu ‘amsa’ in Her. This is the reason that there is no temple for Lord Vishnu separately. Unlike in any other temple, this Ambãl has even Shankha and Chakra (Conch and Wheel -- weapons of Lord Vishnu)!” “Why are the grand village festivals of ‘teemidhi’ (walking on hot burning charcoal) and ‘kãman pandigai’ celebrated inside Arunãchaleswara temple in Tiruvannamalai?
“Tiruvannamalai is ‘agni kshetra’ (representing fire - the five elements water, earth, fire, space and wind are each represented by five Siva temples in various places). Here, Lord Siva appears as ‘agni swaroopa’ (form of fire). Every year, on ‘ãdi pooram’ (Tamizh month of ‘Ãdi’ when the star ‘Pooram’ is on the ascent) ‘teemidhi’ utsav takes place in front of Abhithakuchãmbal (consort of Lord Arunãchaleswara) ‘sannidhi’ (sanctum sanctorum). Moreover, ‘kãman pandigai’ or what is otherwise called ‘Manmatha dahanam’ is celebrated at the junction of three roads/streets in a village. Manmatha (God of Love) disturbed the tapas of Lord Siva just so that His(Lord Siva's) consort (Ambãl) could join Him(Lord Siva). The angered Lord burnt down Manmatha by His very look. This is being celebrated as the festival of Holy in Northern parts of India. This ‘Manmatha dahanam’ is also celebrated inside Arunãchaleswara temple. Since Tiruvannamalai is ‘agni kshetra’, these above mentioned festivals take place here.”
